Maybe I have done this astronomy thing all wrong, perhaps the first thing I should have done was a meteorology course, that way I might experience a little less frustration at times like this.  ‘Times like this’ being daytime temperatures barely reaching +2°C, frost still on the ground, and not just in the shadows, night time temperatures down to -3°C and still 10/10ths cloud cover 24/7.  Been a little watery sunlight today but still not worth getting the ‘scope out to have a look.  Certainly some of the daytime cloud has been low and thin but every night since Boxing Day it’s been plenty thick enough to obscure everything.  This is the first night when there may be a thin crescent moon up to be able to tell if the cloud is thin, low level stuff or something a little more substantial; not that, that helps in any way, shape or form.

Maybe astronomy should come with a health warning?
